The workshop brought together a wide range of participants, from children ages 5 to 12 to adults and elderly persons ages 18 to 70 and older. All from varied backgrounds, but sharing similar conditions of vulnerability, including increased economic precarity, omnipresent insecurity, and emotional vulnerability exacerbated by daily hardships. These vulnerability factors make the question of mental health particularly relevant for this population, especially in a national context where social, economic, and political tensions are at their peak.

Why This Workshop?
The date of July 14, 2024 was not chosen by chance. Indeed, this period is marked by an increase in emotional and psychological disorders, exacerbated by the difficult living conditions in Haiti. The workshop, titled "The Importance of Mental Health in Individual Well-being", was designed to directly address this urgent need for mental health awareness and education.
The main objective of the workshop was to provide participants with a deep understanding of mental health, its central role in daily life, and the means to preserve it. It was a unique opportunity for participants to acquire practical tools to manage their mental health in an environment where external pressures are constant and often overwhelming.
Workshop Proceedings: Rich and Relevant Content
The one-hour workshop was structured around four main themes:
Introduction to Health: The session began with a discussion on the concept of health, highlighting that health is not limited to the absence of physical disease, but also encompasses mental, emotional, and social well-being. This holistic approach made it possible to contextualize the importance of mental health within the framework of a balanced and fulfilling life.
Definition of Mental Health and Well-being: The trainer then defined mental health as a state of well-being in which a person can realize their potential, cope with normal life stresses, work productively, and contribute to their community. This definition was essential in allowing participants to understand that mental health is a dynamic aspect of their existence, influenced by various internal and external factors.
Importance of Mental Health: The discussion then focused on the crucial importance of mental health in our daily lives. The trainer explained how good mental health positively influences all aspects of life, including interpersonal relationships, work performance, and the ability to face challenges. This part of the workshop highlighted that mental health is not a luxury, but a necessity for a fulfilling life.
Coping Strategies: Finally, the workshop concluded with the presentation of practical strategies for managing mental health. Relaxation techniques, emotion management, and the importance of maintaining positive social relationships were addressed. These tools aim to help participants better manage their stress, strengthen their resilience in the face of difficulties, and improve their quality of life.
